Ellinore and Community Service in Putney, Vermont

Student Council members Toby Weed, Ellinore Todd Long, Jack Spanierman, and Patrick Lierle volunteer at Putney Cares Senior Lunch

As a member of the Student Council at the Gramamr School, Ellinore has  been involved in a number of service activities. She has been spending Friday afternoons with her friend Sophie volunteering at the Putney Food Shelf. Ellinore is also one of three TGS students taking part in the meetings that have resulted in the Putney Service Corps, an organization that has emerged from Putney educational institutions and the Transition Putney organization. She is among a group of student and staff representatives from The Grammar School, Putney Central School, Greenwood School, The Putney School and Landmark College. The Putney Corps steering committee has chosen an interim director and late this summer will hire a full-time director with the help of the Americorps / Vista organization. The mission of the Putney Service Corps is to provide student volunteer community services, in an organized systematic way, to those in need in Putney and surrounding communities.

Ellie says she loves these activities and we are grateful to her and the Grammar School for reaching out to the community.
